Burkina Faso is the first to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup. Opponent Gabon went to his knees after a nerve-racking penalty shoot-out, in which Charleroi goalkeeper Hervé Koffi also played his part.
The 1st half between Burkina Faso and Gabon was spiced up with 5 yellow cards, a missed penalty from Burkinabe Bertrand Traoré and also a goal from the Aston Villa player, who corrected his mistake himself.
Also in the 2nd company it rained yellow cards, the Gabonese Obissa even got his 2nd copy pushed under the nose more than 20 minutes before the end. With one man less, Gabon still managed to get extra time out of the fire, thanks to a late own goal by Guira.
No more goals were scored in the extra half hour, so penalties. In it, Burkina Faso won after no less than 18 pings. Koffi stopped one and saw the last Gabonese penalty burst on the crossbar, after which Ouédraogo kicked Burkina Faso to the quarter-finals.
