Santo Domingo.- The Minister of Sports, Francisco Camacho, received with interest the possibility of holding the World Cup of sambo, a combat sport, in the country, after directors of the International Federation of that discipline visited him on Monday.
Camacho stressed that sambo is a “long-standing” sport in Europe and Asia, and that the purpose of the national sports authorities is to “give it entrance” to the country.
«We know that there is a large group of Dominicans practicing sambo; We have been in conversations with these directors who visit us, to whom we welcome them as it has been the north of our management since the first day, which is that of open doors for athletes, “said the official.
Camacho was visited by the executive director of the International Sambo Federation, Sergey Tabakov, the organization’s public relations officer for America, Oleg Artermyuk, and the president of the Dominican Sambo Federation, Eliseo Romero. External source.
The sambo World Cup would be held on May 14 and 15, the directors explained to the Minister of Sports, who suggested some ideal places to hold an event of this magnitude.
In that order, the international federates revealed to Camacho that in the next few days they will submit to their offices the formal request for the celebration of the World Cup event.
“We want to thank the attention to us that Minister Camacho has had. It has been a very productive meeting for the development of sambo in the country and throughout the Caribbean region,” said Artermyuk, who described the meeting as “very good.”
On his side, Romero pondered the cordiality that Camacho showed during the meeting and the “wide receptivity” that he offered to the visitors. He assured that the federation he presides over is made up of 10 associations.
