Senegal must deal with several cases of Covid-19 in its workforce for the start of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations. Already deprived of Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy, still in isolation, the selection of Aliou Cissé will have to do without the services of two additional players, namely left side Fodé Ballo Touré and PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
The Senegalese Federation announced this Wednesday that the latest Covid tests of the two players were found to be positive. They will remain in isolation for the next few days and have already withdrawn from the Téranga Lions’ next match against Guinea this Friday at 2 p.m. Gueye and Ballo-Touré had participated in the entire match won on the wire against Zimbabwe on Monday (1-0), for their entry into the competition.
This is not the first time that Idrissa Gueye has been affected by the coronavirus. Last August, just before the Champions Trophy with PSG against Lille, the former Everton player had already had to withdraw from the field for a while after a positive test. According to our information, Gueye is asymptomatic, which could facilitate his return to competition.
Senegal can count on the returns of Nampalys Mendy, Pape Matar Sarr and Saliou Ciss. The three players resumed training on Wednesday.
