Carlos Correa hires Scott Boras as his new agent | Baseball

When the work stoppage of the Major Leagues ends, free agency with Scott Boras at his side”>Carlos Correa wants to have the most powerful representative in baseball at the negotiating table of his new agreement.

The Puerto Rican shortstop took the first step toward that by hiring Scott Boras as his new agent.

“I have made the decision to retain Boras Corporation to represent me in the future. Boras Corporation offers the highest level of baseball expertise and proven experience,” Correa said in a statement to ESPN Tuesday night.

Correa, 27, was being represented by the WME Baseball agency and prior to that, his career was in the hands of The Legacy Agency.

The Santa Isabelino is in free agency after seven seasons with the Houston Astros.

Correa is looking for a lucrative contract almost similar to the $341 million that Francisco Lindor signed with the New York Mets.

And Boras, one of the most recognized agents in the Major Leagues, is an expert in that.

In 2019, this frustrated former player landed three contracts in one week that totaled $814 million. Pitcher Gerrit Cole signed a $324 million, nine-year deal with the New York Yankees. Meanwhile, pitcher Stephen Strasburg signed a $245 million, seven-year deal with the Washington Nationals. While infielder Anthony Rendon stamped his signature for the same amount of money and years, but with the Los Angeles Angels.

Boras also landed lucrative contracts from top players like Max Scherzer, Bryce Harper, José Altuve and Mike Moustakas. Altuve played with Correa in Houston creating a solid friendship.

“We are very privileged to represent an elite talent like Carlos. We look forward to helping you achieve all of your baseball goals,” said Boras Corporation.

Correa won his first Gold and Platinum Glove last season, and played in the third World Series in his young career.

He finished with a .279 batting average, with 92 RBIs, 104 runs scored, and 26 home runs.

Due to the labor blockade between the Major Leagues and the Players Association, the negotiations for new contracts are paralyzed.
