A pioneer in sports innovation, VOGO is a leading international player for its live & replay audio and video solutions for spectators and professionals in the sports world. The French group announced yesterday the creation of a consortium to meet the global challenges of prevention and detection of concussions in the world of sport.

The Catalans Dragons have joined this consortium dedicated to the development of innovative solutions for the prevention and detection of concussions in the world of sport, alongside leading sports federations such as the French Federation of Football, Judo or Rugby à XV.

VOGO is the leader of this consortium whose vocation is to respond to a global public health issue and to ensure the safety of athletes around the world, whether amateur or professional.

A global public health issue

5 million athletes face the risk of a concussion in France and 100 million in Europe and the United States where it is considered a “national scourge” by medical authorities. Contrary to popular belief, it concerns most team sports with an increased prevalence for women and young people under 20 years of age. And too often, the medical and economic consequences can be devastating for individuals and communities.

Faced with this situation, it is becoming a priority to provide solutions to increase the detection of lesions in addition to existing protocols, while developing the search for good practices to minimize accidents. This urgency is now widely shared by medical officials, federal organizations and athletes in a context of growing media coverage of the subject and increase in the scientific data available on the subject.

A consortium mobilized for the development of a French sector of excellence

The ambition of the consortium is to develop an innovative solution to facilitate decision-making by medical personnel and actors in the field. This solution must meet the requirements of simplicity of use and ease of deployment with a simple objective: to improve concussion detection rates and their management in addition to existing protocols, while allowing monitoring of all concussed practitioners. in the long term, with the objective of resuming sporting activity in the best possible safety conditions.

The meeting of cutting-edge expertise from the scientific, industrial and technological world

Within the academic and research world, the consortium will be able to rely on the cutting-edge research and innovation of the CNRS through the Sys2Diag 1 laboratory (CNRS / ALCEN) in the field of medical diagnosis; on the expertise in biomechanical modeling of impacts and their consequences of the Institute of Human Biomechanics Georges Charpak of Arts et Métiers Sciences et Technologies; on the expertise of the teams of the Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris of Professor Decq of the Beaujon hospital in neurosurgery and cerebral concussions associated with the Epidemiology and biostatistics department of the Bichat hospital; and on the skills in neuropsychology and cognitive neurosciences of the PSITEC laboratories of the University of Lille and VAC of the University of Paris.

This research work will be promoted by the various industrial and technological partners. Leader of the consortium, Vogo will bring its know-how in video and audio signal processing for the study of impacts, Move in Med its ability to aggregate all results and diagnoses, and SkillCell its already validated experience. with the EasyCov project developing portable and rapid tests.

Pascal Saguin, Deputy General Manager of Vogo and representative of the consortium, declares: “Already pioneers in the field of concussion detection in professional sport, we are continuing this commitment today with an initiative full of promise for athletes around the world. whole. The complementarity of the expertise of the members of the consortium and the mobilization of the clubs and federations already at our side pave the way for the development of innovations that will make it possible to better address this global health issue and the risks associated with it. We are proud to be driving forces in this shared adventure with partners whose skills and enthusiasm will be important assets for success”.
