The champion and runner-up of the Baseball Bundesliga 2021 will also be internationally challenged next summer. While the Diving Ducks Wr. Neustadt want to prove themselves in the Federations Cup, the Vienna Metrostars even go on the offensive in the Confederation Cup. In addition to the best clubs in the Baseball Bundesliga, various age groups from Team Austria are also involved. The highlight of the national team summer is the U-12 European Championship at home in Vienna.
The two most successful teams in the Baseball Bundesliga in the 2020 and 2021 seasons qualified for top European competitions. The Vienna Metrostars represent the Baseball Bundesliga in the Confederation Cup. The second highest European competition will be held in France between June 8th and 12th. In Group A, the Viennese will meet hosts Rouen, who won this coveted trophy back in 2016 (then CEB Cup). In addition to the 15-time champions of the French division Élite, the Austrian record champions meet Minsk (BLR) and the Hoboken Pioneers (BEL).
The Diving Ducks Wr. Neustadt qualified as the second red-white-red team for a European club competition with their championship title in 2021. The Lower Austrians travel to Brasschaat / Belgium from June 20th to 25th as part of the Federations Cup. In addition to the hosts, the Austrian champions will face BioTechCom (UKR), Astros Valencia (ESP), London Mets (GBR) and the Sofia Blues (BUL).
Team Austria Events
The various youth departments of Team Austria are also facing an intense summer. The youngest Austrian national team promptly opens the summer with the highlight – and that at home. The U-12 European Championship will be held in Vienna from July 5th to 10th. The red-white-red youth hopes meet in Group B on the Czech Republic, Germany and France. At the same time, a European Championship qualifier will also take place in Vienna.
The U-15 national team also does not have to travel far. Between July 18th and 25th the youth national team in Budapest wants to qualify for next year’s European Championships. In the group with Hungary they also have to hold their own against Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Croatia and Belarus.
The U-18 selection has already qualified for the 2022 European Championship. Between August 18th and 21st, Team Austria will fight for promotion in the Czech Republic with the hosts, the Netherlands, France, Lithuania, Spain and the winner of a qualifier.
Also in August (8/9 to 13/14) the U-23 team contests a qualifying tournament for the European Championship. In Slovenia, the red-white-red selection meets Belgium, Croatia, Slovakia, Hungary and, of course, host Slovenia.
Rainer Husty, PresidentAustrian Baseball Softball Federation: “Thanks to the efforts and successes of the last few years, our teams are now playing against the best in Europe. I know that Austria will be well represented here with full commitment and good preparation, and I wish them all the best!”
In 2022, three softball European championships are also on the agenda: women, U22 and COED slowpitch. The group draws will follow in February.
