Rai Vloet is no longer a Heracles Almelo player. The Dutch club has now suspended its goalscorer.
The striker was involved in a fatal traffic accident in November 2021. After the Dutch police proved that the soccer professional had lied, Vloet was immediately suspended.
A four-year-old child died in the traffic accident on November 14, 2021 after the car in which Vloet was driving crashed into another car. Other vehicle occupants were also injured, some seriously.
Intoxicated, too fast
The police now determined that the 26-year-old was not only drunk, but also clearly exceeded the speed. The car driven by the footballer was traveling at 203 km/h instead of the permitted 130 km/h, and Vloet also had a blood alcohol content of 1.18.
After the police findings became known, Almelo managing director Rob Toussaint was deeply shocked. “As we have now learned, Vloet not only drove far too fast, but also drank too much. Both of these are unacceptable. In the weeks and months following the accident, Vloet told us that he was no faster than the speed limit driven at 130 km/h and had no more than two alcoholic drinks.”
The footballer himself said more than two weeks ago on the club’s website: “I think about what happened every day and wish I could turn back time. The affected family is going through hell at the moment,” the player continued.
Legal proceedings are still pending.
