Former baseball pro Sergio Miter has been found guilty of raping and killing a toddler. The former New York Yankees pitcher now faces 50 years in prison.
The horrible act happened in July 2020 on Calle Humboldt in Saltillo, Mexico. Miter, who had previously been convicted of domestic violence, inflicted such serious injuries on the 22-month-old daughter of his partner Liliana Ines that the girl subsequently died of internal bleeding in the children’s hospital.

The police were called because of the signs of external violence. Initially, the mother was under suspicion, but investigations soon focused on Miter. He claimed that the girl’s fatal injuries resulted from a fall down the stairs.

However, after hearing 19 witnesses, the court concluded that “it has been shown beyond a reasonable doubt that Sergio Armando Miter is criminally guilty”.

Miter, 40, was sentenced to 50 years in prison, ten years below the maximum penalty for the crime in Mexico. His lawyer Mizora Rodarte announced that she would appeal.
