The City of St. Petersburg made a big announcement Thursday revealing that the Tampa Bay Rays and Major League Baseball would not pursue a split-season plan with Montreal.
This is why the new mayor of the city, Ken Welch, offered the following message:
“We are working with our county partners and the City Council to come up with the best possible plan, which will work in conjunction with my planned evolution of the Tropicana Field master development proposals. With this collaborative approach, I am confident we can partner with the Tampa Bay Rays to create an iconic new full-time home for Major League Baseball in St. Petersburg while achieving historic equitable economic growth.”
At a press conference on Thursday afternoon, the owner of the Tampa Bay Rays expressed disappointment that the agreement with the Major League Baseball was not approved.
