SANTO DOMINGO. The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) joins the rejoicing expressed by President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, for the success achieved by the Dominican Republic in the recent International Tourism Fair (FITUR) held in Madrid, Spain.
“We join the jubilation expressed by the president (Luis Abinader), because the country emerged victorious from that great meeting,” said Mr. Antonio Acosta, president of the COD, referring to the Dominican participation in FITUR, this time as a guest member. .
The head of the COD stated that sport also celebrates this success because “we generate tourism in the country” with the celebration of the numerous international events that take place here every year.
Among these, he cited the international tournaments held by the athletics, basketball, baseball, golf, soccer, cycling, bowling, volleyball, judo, weightlifting, tennis, surfing, table tennis and baseball federations, in addition to the congresses that are called to take place on Dominican soil.
Acosta indicated that the aforementioned events not only bring athletes, but also family and friends. “That promotes our country as an attractive destination for tourism,” he said.
He reiterated his congratulations to President Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado, noting that “sport will continue to be a great driver of tourism to our nation.”
Acosta stated that Abinader has proven to be a sporting president, and this is demonstrated by his visit to the Atlético Madrid Football Stadium.
