The absence of Van Aert and Van der Poel provided the opportunity of a lifetime for the cyclists participating in the cyclo-cross World Championship and Tom Pidcock (Great Britain) was unforgiving on the fast circuit of Fayetteville, USA. The British flew and no one could stop him, not even the large Belgian team.

Vanthourenhout (Belgium) launched an attack on lap four and Pidcock followed suit, overtook a 90-degree turn and went away. The next time they saw him was on the podium. That decisive moment coincided with a slip by Eli Iserbyt (Belgium), who lost ground at the moment when he could not fail.

With the victory this Sunday Pidcock, at 22 years old, has achieved the cyclo-cross rainbow in the junior, sub23 and elite categories and has broken the sequence that Van Aert and Van der Poel had of seven consecutive world championships won. Second was Van der Haar (Netherlands) and third Iserbyt.
