Remarkably enough, everyone encountered a problem or several minor defects, but Al-Attiyah managed to limit the damage day after day. The Audis were quick enough after making navigational errors, while Sébastien Loeb tried everything but simply couldn’t succeed.
As a result, the quartet’s completion may not have been Al-Attiyah’s most spectacular overall victory, but it was just one that disappears into the books. Loeb finished in over half an hour. Third place went to Yazeed Al Rajhi, who finished on the podium for the first time.

Fast electric Audis have a future
The last stage victory did not go to the Audis – but to Henk Lategan – and the electric cars of the German manufacturer did not play a role in the standings, but the future can be looked to with confidence. Carlos Sainz, Stéphane Peterhansel and Mattias Ekström all demonstrated that the speed is absolutely there, but the second appearance in the desert could be a little more robust – also from the drivers.
Bernhard ten Brinke became the best classified Dutchman with the seventeenth position. Ten Brinke would not actually even start, but was called up last minute due to corona cases and started a new Dakar adventure without even a single test kilometer.
