Damian Lillard’s operation makes the Trail Blazers think about next year

Damian Lillard finally underwent abdominal surgery to correct some discomfort that has slowed his performance this NBA season. The Portland Trail Blazers point guard has only played 29 games and will be out between 8 and 10 weeks.

With the team’s plight, which ranks 10th in the West at 16-24, hopes of reaching a postseason berth are slim. The team must analyze its future and try to build a competitive team for the next season.

If not for the injury, Lillard would have likely left the team once the NBA market opened this season. There was talk of receiving two players in exchange for the point guard and some draft picks to rebuild the squad.

In 29 games (all as a starter) this season, Lillard has averaged 24.0 points (40.2% FG, 32.4% 3-PT, 89.3% FT), 4.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists in 36.4 minutes per game.
