A new chapter was added to the soap around Ousmane Dembélé on Sunday. The Frenchman failed to show up for the away game against Alavés with an alleged excuse.
The Barcelona players were expected at the club on Sunday morning to travel to Vitoria-Gasteiz for the league game with Alavés. Dembélé was nowhere to be seen. The Frenchman called out with ‘stomach problems‘, which was also reported on Barça’s official channels. But according to Spanish media, nobody believes him. The club management is now considering imposing a sanction on Dembele.
The last few days there is a lot to do around Dembélé. The 24-year-old attacker has still not renewed his expiring contract, because he feels financially undervalued. He – and his agent – only want to sign up in exchange for an exorbitant salary. Barcelona cannot meet his requirements, after which coach Xavi kept him out of the match selection for the match against Athletic Bilbao (3-2 loss). Then Dembélé did show up.
