Union Berlin is the city cup winner!
Against a desolate backdrop, Union wins 3-2 against Hertha. In the Berlin Olympic Stadium, instead of 74,475 fans, only 3,000 were allowed to attend, 200 of them from the Union.
In the derby, Union’s Andreas Voglsammer (30) becomes VoglHAMMER!
► 11. Minute: Kruse crosses from the left to Voglsammer in the sixteen. He actually comes a bit too late, but plays it with a mixture of side kicks and slides over Schwolow to the left into the far corner! 1:0!
Template provider Kruse on ARD: “He didn’t expect that.”
Voglsammer when asked if he could remember a better goal he’s ever scored: “It’s hard to say. I do not think so. I have a hard time with that.”
As in the league (0:2), Hertha has no chance for the most part, only has a few chances before half-time. A goal by Serdar is called off for a razor-thin offside.
After the change of sides there are five crazy minutes!
► 50. Minute: Öztunali lets Boyata out and plays from the right in the penalty area. Stark wants to clarify there, but hits his own goal. 2:0!
► 54. Minute: a goal out of nowhere! Serdar wants to play from the goal line to the middle. Khedira steps in between and also deflects the ball into his own goal. 2:1!
► 55. Minute: Bone puts the lid on it! After a free kick from Oczipka, the central defender gets the ball and only needs to nod off. 3:1!
In stoppage time (90+5) Serdar makes it 2:3 – but too late!
Fifth in the table, Union is the best-placed Bundesliga club in the quarter-finals.
