Cup desire in the neighborhood, cup frustration in the pot!
Embarrassing 1: 2 in the cup round of 16 at the second division leaders St. Pauli. Dortmund missed the final in Berlin – and thus the second goal of the season. The knockout round in the Champions League had also not worked before.
Dortmund throws away the pot!
BVB had high hopes of triumphing again in Berlin after Bayern lost the cup early (5-0 in the second round in Gladbach). Past! The defending champion is out.
Marco Reus (32) on ARD: “Today was a bad day. We just woke up late. It’s extremely bitter because the chance was great again.”

It starts really badly in front of 2,000 spectators!
4. Minute: Hartel can cross on the right side. Amenyido storms into the penalty area, doesn’t really get the ball under control with his right hand, stumbles it in from six meters. Akanji and Reus are late.
Hazard (7′) and Reus (18′) can’t get the ball past goalkeeper Smarsch. No wonder: the keeper is the Pauli cup cabinet (1.95 meters tall, 97 kilos). In the league he only sits on the bench.
Smarsch celebrates the 2-0 win before the break.
40. Minute: Medic plays on the right flank. Burgstaller puts the ball flat in the middle. Witsel wants to save from Amenyido, deflects the ball into his own goal.
St. Pauli striker Guido Burgstaller (32): “We went in from the start so that we wanted to play. You always need a bit of luck against such an opponent. We had. Too bad the stadium wasn’t full.”
And what about Haaland, who recently felt pressured by the bosses about his future? He is noticed for the first time when he brings BVB in with a penalty.
58. Minute: Hummels shoots, Medic gets the ball on the outstretched arm. According to the video images, referee Osmers decides on a penalty kick. Haaland transforms safely.
It could have been the last DFB Cup game for the Norwegian. BVB boss Watzke before kick-off on ARD: “If Erling should really leave – and that can happen – we will find a solution again.”
