Disabled people in inclusive shared accommodation with “Families solidaires Bretagne”

Rozenn Morice is a family carer, mother of a young disabled person named Gaël and president of the association “Ose Ta Vie”, which became “Familles solidaires Bretagne”. Since 2018, she has been working for inclusive shared accommodation solutions that allow people with disabilities to live surrounded, with others and like others, as independently as possible. An alternative between everything at home and everything in an institution. And which allows family caregivers to let go.

The concept already tested in Alsace in Mulhouse, was launched in Brittany in Quévert near Dinan (22) and is also developing in Dinard (35): in the first roommate “Ose ta vie”, 4 young people aged 23 to 30 who did not know each other have been living there since May 2019 without their families. Young adults with autism or epilepsy, with people at their side who take turns 24 hours a day, nursing assistants, medico-psychological assistants and volunteers.

The benefits of this life in shared accommodation have already been seen for 2 years and in particular the cessation of treatment for some of these young people against behavioral disorders, a very united group life and an impression of deciding one’s life: elaboration of menus, cooking, choice of personal activities, archery, judo, swimming pool. Orphée, a 2nd flatshare in Quévert opened in March 2021 with 3 autistic tenants with good autonomy and another adventure in Dinard (35) in September 2021 with 5 tenants.

While waiting for the new construction “Ose ta vie” for 7 people to replace the first shared accommodation, the association Families Solidarity Brittany received additional legitimacy at the 8th Victoires de la Bretagne at the end of 2021 with the “Victoire du Civisme et de la Solidarité” . She is now looking for donations and goodwill to set up other inclusive disabled-valid and intergenerational projects.
