Brotherly sharing: a slogan that Union spreads with verve. With the striker duo Vanzeir and Undav as the personification of that gun factor this season. Even when designating the penalty takers, the individual is apparently subordinate to the team. “Union has a fair and alternating order for that,” explains Aster Nzeyimana in Extra Time.
The gun factor within Union is great. Even on their penalties.
The leader in the Jupiler Pro League has already had 3 different penalty takers this season: Teddy Teuma, Dante Vanzeir and Deniz Undav have each already given and scored a penalty.
That is no coincidence, Extra Time presenter Aster Nzeyimana knows. “I have heard from a good source that there is an alternating order for the penalty takers at Union.”
“They have 3 regular penalty takers, but the order changes every week. Teuma is always second on the sheet. Vanzeir and Undav exchange in first place.”
It’s higher math, but a very fair system
But it doesn’t stop there. To keep everyone happy, the trainer’s cell of the leader in the Jupiler Pro League came up with a democratic system. This way there is no discussion in any situation.
“If the first in line has already scored in that match, the penalty goes to the runner-up,” Aster explains. “That’s why Teuma already has a few penalty goals to his name this season.”
Ghent – Union as a textbook example:
For example, the match at Ghent: there Vanzeir (the first penalty taker on the sheet) opened the score. In the second half, Union then got a penalty. That was neatly converted by Teuma (the 2nd on the magazine).”
Gunfactor
“It’s higher math, but a very fair system,” Aster says. “Even if all three have already scored in a match, they return to the list. That shows that it is a gang of friends.”
“So you see once again that the gun factor is great with the Unionists. That drips from that group of players, even with their penalties it now comes up”, Gert Verheyen also thinks.
