Axel Witsel will face an important decision next summer. The Red Devil has an expiring contract with Borussia Dortmund and does not want to extend it. It has made Standard dream.
According to the German Sport1 Witsel has already decided not to stay with Borussia Dortmund any longer. The midfielder is no longer sure of a starting spot at the German club and is looking for a new challenge. The aforementioned source indicates that this ‘new’ challenge could lie with Standard.
Just like RSC Anderlecht did before with Vincent Kompany, Standard dreams of bringing Witsel back to Belgium. Witsel has also never made it a secret that he still follows Standard and may also return as a player. That return may come sooner than expected.
However, it remains to be seen whether Witsel is also affordable for Standard, which is already in financial trouble. The midfielder currently earns around 7.5 million euros a year at Borussia Dortmund, while Juventus and Galatasaray are also hoping for his arrival.
