Double silver for Bellandi and Parlati at the GP Portugal 2022

From Friday January 28th to Sunday January 30th 2022 the first Grand Prix of the year took place with the new IJF regulations in Portugal, in Almada.

Italy was also present with: Angelo Pantano and Biagio D’Angelo (-60 kg), Alessandro Magnani and Luigi Centracchio (-73 kg), Lorenzo Parodi (-81 kg), Christian Parlati (-90 kg), Asia Advanced (-48 kg), Miriam Boi (-57 kg) and Alice Bellandi (-78 kg). Both Christian Parlati and Alice Bellandi competed in the higher category than the 9Tokyo Olympics.

The lighter categories competed on Friday (-60 and -66 kg for men, and -48, -52 and -57 kg for women).

Angelo Pantano, who was physically awarded for the best IJF ippon of 2021, was ranked fifth in -60 kg. There is regret for the final for the bronze: they denied him a net ippon of ura-nage as a counterattack on the uchimata of the Korean opponent Lee, with which the blue could win again the best IJF ippon of the year even if we are still at the first race of the year, followed by the osae-komi (immobilization) already done by the Italian. The athlete of the Fiamme Gialle Sports Group beat Adam Jazan (Isr), David Naji (Hun) and Sumiyabazar Enkhtaivan (Mgl), but lost in the semifinal to Harim Lee (Kor), category winner, and, in the final for bronze with Tsogt-Ochir Byambajav (Mgl). This fifth place allows him in any case to rise in the world ranking.

In the same category Biagio D’Angelo lost in the first round to Lionel Schwander (Sui).

Advanced Asia it is classified seventh in -48 kg. The 18-year-old Italian passed the first round and won with Mireia Lapuerta Comas (Esp), then in the quarter-finals she lost with Catarina Costa (Por), winner of this category and fifth at the Tuokyo Olympics, and in the repechage with Elena Salens (Nice).

Miriam Boi, also an athlete of the Fiamme Gialle Sports Group, resumed international competitions after the Tallin Open Europe in 2019, with a good seventh place in the -57 kg. He won in the first round with Flaka Loxha (Kos) and then lost the next with Pleuni Cornelisse (Ned), in the repechage he lost to Jaeryeong Kim (Kor).

Saturday was the day of the intermediate categories (-73 and -81 men, and -63 and -70 women), a less fortunate day for Italy.

In the -73 kg they competed Alessandro Magnani who won the first with Sam King (Aus) but lost the second with Joan-Benjamin Gaba (Fra), bronze medal at the end of the day, and Luigi Centracchio who lost in the first round to Daniyl Zoubko (Fra).

In the -81 kg Lorenzo Parodi passed the first round but lost the second to Guilherme Schimidt (Bra), current Pan-American champion and bronze medalist at the 2019 Junior World Championships.

On Sunday, the last day of this Grand Prix, the heaviest categories competed (-90, -100 and +100 men and -78 and +78 women).

For Italy it was the turn of the two Olympians Alice Bellandi, no longer in the -70 but in the -78 kg, and Christian Parlati, who also changed category from-to -90 kg.

The Brescia area Alice Bellandi passed the first round and won the second round with Patrizia Sampaio (Por) at the golden score, the quarter-finals with Lanir Inbar (Isr), European U23 champion and bronze medalist at the junior European Championships in 2020, in the semifinals she won with Jeongyun Lee (Kor) but in the final he lost to Hyunji Yoon (Kor), thus ending with a good silver in the -78 kg.

The Neapolitan Christian Parlati he began in the -90 kg with the victory over Jean Bava Tsikoumina-Wakou (Cgo) in 47 seconds, in the second round he won with Roland Goz (Hun) at the golden score immediately after an action in his favor but not evaluated, in the quarterfinals he beat Iurie Mocanu (Mda). In the semifinal he won with Komronshokh Ustopiriyon but unfortunately he lost in the final with Jesper Smink (Ned), however winning an excellent silver medal in this new category.
