In the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup, the really big names are missing. FC Bayern Munich and BVB have already been eliminated from the cup competition. The title holders of the past 29 years are no longer there, and of the last eight remaining teams, four are second division clubs.
The former ski racer Felix Neureuther was actually planned as the Losfee, but he had to cancel because of his daughter’s corona infection. Neureuther was represented by BVB legend Norbert Dickel, who won the cup with Borussia Dortmund in 1989.
Dickel gave 1. FC Union a home game – the Berliners welcome second division club FC St. Pauli. Hamburg’s local rival HSV meets Karlsruher SC – a home game against a league competitor, probably the easiest opponent Hamburg could get.
The quarterfinals will be played on March 1st and 2nd, 2022, the round of the last four on April 19th and 20th, 2022. The final in Berlin will take place on May 21st, 2022 in the Olympic Stadium.
