Egan Bernal crashes hard during training in Colombia

Egan Bernal came into contact with a parked bus during a training session in his home country of Colombia on Monday. The exact condition of the INEOS Grenadiers rider is still unclear, but Colombian police say he only suffered minor injuries.
Bernal, 25, was training near Gachancipá, a town in the Colombian department of Cundinamarca, when he collided with a parked bus. Photos show the 2019 Tour winner lying on the ground and receiving care.
Minor injuries
It is still unclear how bad the damage is at Bernal, but according to several Colombian news sites, including Mundo Ciclístico, the round rider is not seriously injured. The Colombian police are talking about ‘minor injuries’. INEOS Grenadiers has since said that Bernal was conscious when he was taken to hospital.
Bernal has since been taken to hospital, where he will be treated for his injuries. The question is whether he should postpone his season debut, or whether he will receive the green light from the doctors to participate in the Tour de La Provence. The French multi-day event starts on February 10.
Bernal is certainly not the first rider in Colombia to deal with an accident during training. His compatriot Daniel Arroyave (EF Education-EasyPost) was the victim of a collision at the end of last year and Bernal himself was almost knocked out by a motorist last week.
