Kimi Raikkonen raced in Abu Dhabi on 12 December 2021, the last Grand Prix of a very long and triumphant career in Formula 1. The Finn has always been known to be a mild-mannered guy, but now that he’s out of the racing world for good, his statements have become even sharper.
In an interview for Motorsport.com Raikkonen shot zero at the entire F1 system: “There are so many things that don’t make sense, at least to me, in Formula 1. I’m talking about all the bullshit that goes around. We know, but nobody says anything. These are things that shouldn’t even exist. Many things are false in here. It’s good to be outside. mentally it’s very nice to be out of all that bullshit ”.
The Finn then went on to describe a world dominated by money and power games: “Money has changed things in F1 too, as in any sport. The more money you put in, the more politics there is. This happens everywhere, in every country. Of course, money plays an important role, as does power. I believe people want to have power. I think there could be a lot of good politicians who would do well in current politics – and then add – I didn’t get involved in the political aspect. I know a lot of things that happen, but I don’t get involved. If you get involved every day, I don’t think it’s very healthy for a person. “
