Favorite Alexander Zverev wins against local hero Millman

The next opponent also felt the strength of Alexander Zverev. The German tennis star defeated the Australian John Millman. This means that the Olympic champion at the Australian Open is one round ahead.

Alexander Zverev reached the third round of the Australian Open for the sixth time in a row on his title hunt in Melbourne. The 24-year-old Olympic champion from Hamburg left no doubt about the winner in a duel with local hero John Millman and won 6:4, 6:4, 6:0. He now meets the qualifier Radu Albot from Moldova.

After Novak Djokovic’s involuntary departure before the start of the tournament, Zverev is one of the big title favorites alongside Daniil Medvedev and 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. The 35-year-old Mallorcan Nadal proved his strong form on Wednesday in a 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 win against Karlsruhe’s Yannick Hanfmann.

Dominik Koepfer and Oscar Otte had previously retired. Koepfer, who was born in the Black Forest, had to admit defeat to US service giant Reilly Opelka (No. 23) 4: 6, 3: 6, 6: 7 (4: 7), Otte from Cologne missed the third round with a 6: 2, 2: 6, 3:6, 1:6 against the 25th seeded Italian Lorenzo Sonego.

After Zverev, Philipp Kohlschreiber still has a chance of moving into round three on Thursday.
