FC Bayern announced on Friday that Alphonso Davies (21) would be out indefinitely with a heart muscle infection. The Canadian reported himself for the first time on Saturday.
Alongside a photo of him laughing, he posted on Instagram: “Thanks everyone for showing me so much love and support. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and do what I love.”
However, his teammates are sounding the alarm: slow down – and don’t take the illness lightly!
Thomas Müller (32): “This is a topic that is not to be trifled with. He must now make sure that he takes care of his health. You really have to be careful with that. We mustn’t underestimate that, we mustn’t say: Okay, yes, we’ll be back next week. As you know him, and as I know him, I think maybe you have to be more careful that he realizes that this is not something to be trifled with. I can imagine that you don’t notice that so much in peace. He definitely has to take it easy now.”

Müller continues: “Basically, I’ve never experienced it with teammates before. But you’ve heard it again and again, when you supposedly started with a cold or the flu too early. Inflammation of the heart muscle after exercise or illness is nothing new . But of course it’s an issue that shouldn’t be trifled with. That’s why we’re doing the investigations and it’s a bitter situation for Phonzy.”
For Manuel Neuer (35) it is also a warning for all athletes: “Of course it is dangerous. That’s why I can only recommend every athlete to do the tests before you start.”
Julian Nagelsmann (34) also calls for prudence: “It’s important that he can heal, but it’s also a shame because Alphonso had just come back. We also need his quality at the position and with his downtime indefinite it’s particularly annoying.”
