Niklas Süle will leave FC Bayern on a free transfer in the summer. Now ex-club boss Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is talking about the departure. He criticizes Süle – and suggests that money was crucial for the national player.
Et are harsh words from Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The former CEO of FC Bayern considers the departure of national player Niklas Süle from FC Bayern next summer to be manageable. And he talks about the weaknesses of the 26-year-old.
“He was always a useful player,” said Rummenigge in an interview on Sky TV on Monday. Doesn’t exactly sound like praise. And Rummenigge followed suit.
“The problem is that he never really asserted himself in his position,” he said, also referring to the central defender‘s cruciate ligament tear in October 2019. After that, Süle lost touch. “That’s something he might want to think about,” said Rummenigge: “Bayern Munich are also well-manned in central defence, even without Süle.”
Süle leaves FC Bayern free of charge at the end of the season, clubs from England and FC Barcelona are said to be interested in him. The defender switched from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to Munich in the summer of 2017 for around 20 million euros. Rummenigge said of the possible motive “lack of appreciation” for the farewell to Süles: “Appreciation is a unit called the euro – nothing else.”
Rummenigge does not expect Borussia Dortmund’s striker Erling Haaland to move to Bayern. “I don’t expect that. I think the best player is Robert Lewandowski and the best player is at Bayern Munich,” he said.
There is always speculation about the Haaland personality. FC Bayern would like to extend the contract with Lewandowski beyond 2023.
