| Reading time: 2 minutes
FC St. Pauli suffered a setback in the promotion race on the first day of the second half of the season. The Hamburgers only play a draw against the basement child from Aue. Werder Bremen made up more ground with a win against Düsseldorf.
Dhe FC St. Pauli missed the chance to consolidate their lead in the second Bundesliga. In the first game after the winter break, coach Timo Schultz’s team had to settle for a 2-2 (1-1) win against the second-bottom Erzgebirge Aue.
After goals from Ben Zolinski (17th minute) and Nikola Trujic (72nd), an unexpected home defeat threatened before Etienne Amenyido equalized in added time. This gave SV Darmstadt the chance to overtake Hamburg by beating Karlsruhe in the evening game at 8:30 p.m.
SV Werder Bremen – Fortuna Dusseldorf 3:0
Werder Bremen continued their race to catch up and worked their way up to third place. Bremen won 3-0 (0-0) against Fortuna Düsseldorf and celebrated their fourth win in the fourth game under coach Ole Werner. Niclas Füllkrug (66th, 87th minute) and Marvin Ducksch (80th) scored the goals for the green-whites. Fortuna had to play a man down for a long time in the second half because Kristoffer Peterson saw the red card for a foul play (58th). The Rhinelanders are thus still in the relegation battle.
Werder were dominant from the start in the Weser Stadium, where no spectators were allowed due to the corona pandemic. However, the first division relegated could only use its superiority for goals when outnumbered. Another Ducksch goal was taken back by the video assistant for being offside (73′).
1. FC Nürnberg – SC Paderborn 1:2
After a false start against SC Paderborn, who are strong away from home, 1. FC Nürnberg missed out on third place. The Franconians lost 1:2 (0:2) in the spectatorless Max Morlock Stadium after an unsuccessful race to catch up in the second half of the game. The guests drew level with the club with 30 points – and even passed them in the table.
The storm duo Sven Michel (41st minutes) and Felix Platte (44th) shocked Nuremberg with a double strike at the end of the first half. Nuremberg’s coach Robert Klauß went fully on the offensive after the change of sides. But it was only enough for a goal by Mats Möller Daehli (61st).
