Vasiliev scored 181.84 points in the election program, correcting the previous personal record by more than a tenth (165.61 points). The 272.08 points awarded in the sum is also Denis’s best result, as he had never scored more than 254.48 points before.

Dennis’ program of choice began with a brilliant four-time Salhov jump and continued to be both technically flawless and vividly showcased. Vasilyev was awarded 2.4 points for a silver medal.

Russian champion Mark Kondratyuk provided 286.56 points for the European Championship gold, while Daniel Grasl from Italy earned the silver prize with 274.48 points. The world junior champion Russian Andrei Mozalov, who was the leader after the short program, was left without a medal.

After Denis’s skating, his coach Stefan Lambjels rejoiced, grabbing his head with excitement and congratulating the athlete with an excellent performance.

It has already been reported that on Wednesday, Vasiljevs reached a personal record in the optional skating and won the 6th place. The second Latvian figure skater Daniels Kočkers took the 29th place in the short program and did not qualify for the optional skating, where the best 24 continued the fight.

In the dance pairs competition, the Latvian duo Aurēlija Ipolito and Lūks Russels won the 24th place in rhythm dance on Friday and did not qualify for the continuation of the competition in the optional dance, where 20 pairs will compete.

Anete Lace reached the 25th place in the short program for women on Thursday.

Vasilyev’s best achievement in European championships so far was the 4th place won in 2018. Konstantin Kostin also left the podium in 1993 and Angelina Kuchalski in the women’s competition in 2016.

The European Championship in the Estonian capital will end on Sunday, January 16, with demonstrations.
