Firpo obtained its first victory in Clausura 2022 by beating Municipal Limeño by the minimum this Sunday at the Sergio Torres Rivera stadium.
The only goal was scored by Colombian Henry Castillo, who not only made his debut with the Firpo shirt, but also scored the first goal of Clausura 2022.
Those led by Roberto Gamarra started the tournament with the aim of becoming champions, but without their captain Eduardo Vigil, who is concentrated with the national team; while those led by Carlos Romero began their fight to avoid relegation.
The locals began the game by taking possession of the ball, building the attack from the start; while Limeño tried to intercept the ball in midfield with Javier Lezcano exerting constant pressure in that area.
Jomal Williams showed his quality in the first minutes of the game, unbalanced down the left wing, Styven Vásquez played further back, as a midfielder, leaving Henry Castillo as the only center forward, who was precisely in charge of opening the scoring in Usulutan.
Castillo had a great debut in national soccer. At minute 10, the Colombian received the ball in a corner from the left sector and the gunner did not hesitate to shoot the goal with his right foot to beat Paraguayan goalkeeper Sandro Melgarejo. First goal for the coffee grower with the Firpo shirt and the first goal of the entire Clausura 2022.
After the annotation, the Pampero team did not lower their dominance and continued to maintain possession of the ball, although they did not have clarity in the last pass.
The cuchero box, for its part, closed the spaces to avoid the arrivals of the locals, exerted pressure in the midfield, only that it was not very successful in recovering the ball.
Kevin Sagastizado, on minute 27, made a long-distance shot that went wide, without causing any problems for goalkeeper Oscar Sánchez.
At minute 36, William Canales overflowed down the right wing and sent a cross to Jomal Williams, who slipped and sent a weak shot to the Limeño goalkeeper.
A minute later, Henry Castillo sent a free kick to the upper right corner, and Melgarejo managed to save the ball with one hand.
In the last minutes of the first half, the roles were reversed, and Municipal Limeño took possession of the ball, however, they could not get past the midfield. The Firpo players were attentive and cut off the visitors’ passes to create counterattacks.
In the second half, the Pampero team began by keeping possession of the ball, with Williams playing in the center, Vásquez on the left flank and Castillo on the other wing, and had the first dangerous arrival in the complement.
Henry Castillo approached again in the 48th minute, but sent the ball to the side of the visitors’ goal.
Municipal Limeño began to get into the game and got possession of the ball. The cucheros gradually built their arrivals at the rival goal.
René Gómez, who came on as a substitute in the second half, attempted a long-range shot in the 55th minute, but the ball went wide.
Despite the fact that the visiting team began to reach more into the rival area, the usuluteco team also attacked. Herbert Sosa overflowed from the right sector at minute 69, and a minute later, Álvaro Lizama made a shot that just went over Melgarejo’s goal.
The game began to lose intensity, with a Limeño who calmly arrived on the attack, with his arrivals ending in corner kicks that did not cause any danger.
At minute 82, Ronaldo González gave a warning by attempting a long-range shot that hit the crossbar of the visitors’ goal.
The Santarroseño team tried to score the equalizer until the last moment of the match, however, they failed to do so and Firpo obtained their first win of the tournament, while Limeño is complicated in the accumulated table.
On the next day, Firpo will visit the capital to face Atlético Marte, while Limeño will host the national runner-up, Platense.
