Tbilisi, Jan 18 (EFE) .- Georgia registered 7,521 cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the daily maximum since the start of the pandemic, the country’s health authorities reported on Tuesday. The Ministry of Health indicated that 31 covid-19 patients also died last day. According to official data, Georgia currently has almost 1.7 million confirmed cases of coronavirus, a figure that is equivalent to practically half of its population. The highest number of infections, 4,171, was detected in the Georgian capital. “We assume that more than half of the new cases are due to the omicron variant,” the Deputy Minister of Health, Tamara Gabunia, told a press conference. Since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, 14,512 people have died from covid-19.
