Gert Verheyen holds his heart about what will happen to Philippe Clement at AS Monaco.
“I saw Monaco play in the Europa League in November, against Sociedad. That was pretty okay, sometimes even good. However, Niko Kovac was sacked because he lost to PSG. One defeat in twelve matches! Even if you’re sixth, who’s going to put their trainer out on the street? That promises,” Gert Verheyen clearly stated in Het Nieuwsblad.
Verheyen followed the match against Nantes, Clement’s first. “Look, trainers often have a hand in giving their predecessor another blow, genre ‘physically this team is not in order.’ While you can’t even see that as an outsider. Fille can say that. His team is not fit. Monaco played like a dying candle against Nantes.”
“It was not good. They missed Ben Yedder up front, but their attack looked really weak. And I wasn’t crazy about what was in the center in the back. If you have to get that team to second or third place… There’s a lot of work to do. I actually don’t think it’s possible. It will be a very difficult assignment for De Fille.”
