In the nine years since joining the National Basketball Association (NBA), Giannis Antetokounmpo has achieved almost every attainable career goal.
He has won awards including Most Improved Player, Most Valuable Player (twice), Defensive Player of the Year and Finals MVP. In 2021, he also led the Milwaukee Bucks to victory for the team’s first title in 50 years.
From the height of his 2.11 m, Giannis Antetokounmpo seemed predestined to play basketball thanks to his skills and his large size. However, he did not go through the traditional American scouting for the NBA. In fact, his career is much more atypical and international.
Antetokounmpo was born to Nigerian parents in Athens, Greece. Although he grew up facing many challenges, his passion for basketball and his relentless drive to succeed transcended those obstacles. He shone in the Greek junior championships and was recruited by the NBA when he was still a teenager.
Today, he lives this experience at 360 degrees. Antetokounmpo and his brothers run a basketball academy in Athens that helps kids from underprivileged backgrounds get involved in the sport and, through basketball, gain the confidence and skills needed for anything they do.
By becoming a member of the Breitling Squad, Antetokounmpo joins other celebrities, including Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron, Misty Copeland, Kelly Slater and Adam Driver. In terms of personality and style, each of them aims to represent a relaxed and enduring approach to Breitling luxury, while bringing their own dynamic character to their collaboration with the brand.
