Because of filming in the changing rooms of the women’s handball Bundesliga teams from Buchholz and Bietigheim, the police in Lower Saxony have a 55-year-old under suspicion. The man is said to have made recordings in the showers with dummy light switches.

Dhe women’s handball Bundesliga is shaken by a scandal. Affected: the team of handball lynxes Buchholz 08-Rosengarten and the team of SG BBM Bietigheim from Baden-Württemberg. The scene of the crime: the Nordheidehalle in Buchholz. The police in Lower Saxony have a 55-year-old from Buchholz under suspicion because of filming in the showers of the home and guest team.

The man, who comes from the wider area of the Buchholz 08-Rosengarten association, is said to have installed three cameras in the showers during the game in September. “Fortunately, they were discovered very quickly,” a police spokesman confirmed on Thursday a report by the NDR. According to a report by the “Winsener Anzeiger”, the cameras were functional and also recorded images. The man is now being investigated for “violation of the very personal sphere of life”.

The police searched the man’s apartment in December. The evidence would still be evaluated and the case would then be handed over to the prosecutor, it said. The suspect denies the allegations.

The incident occurred on September 18 last year in the Buchholzer Nordheidehalle, but has not yet been made public for “tactical reasons”, as it was said.

The Buchholz vs. Bietigheim game was still played

The suspect is said to have had access to the hall in the Harburg district. The cameras were therefore hidden behind dummy light switches. According to the “Winsener Anzeiger” report, the Buchholz players noticed a “strange installation” in the anteroom of the showers. It is said to have been a dummy switch behind which a camera and storage medium were located.

After the crew discovered a second camera, the police were informed. She then inspected the guests’ changing room and found a third hidden camera in the wet area there. The game was played anyway.

For the Buchholzer Klub, however, the question arises as to whether the cameras were installed for the first time. Because the suspect was in charge of preparing the hall for the home games. According to the police, he had the opportunity to move unobtrusively in the area of the changing rooms. The Nordheidehalle is a training location for top athletes in a wide variety of sports, including the location as a certified talent school of the German Gymnastics Federation.

A police spokesman said that there are currently no indications that further recordings have been made or that pictures have even been posted on the Internet. “I am still shocked and hope that someone will be caught,” said Buchholz managing director Sven Dubau of BILD: “Since then, we have been taking a tour of the hall, removing the hall. We also have two watchdogs so that people who don’t belong there can’t get in. “
