Deportivo Independiente Medellín lost 2-0 to Patriotas in Tunja, for the second date in the I-2022 League. With a good first half, the powerful fell apart in the complementary stage, especially after the early goal of the boyacense team, where the spirits fell and the team failed to get off the ground. At the end of the game, coach Julio Comesaña and captain Andrés Cadavid spoke about what the mighty left during his visit to La Independencia stadium.
Andrés Cadavid pointed out that “we have to be aware of the way in which we had controlled the game, the first half was well planned, suddenly we had to risk a little more at the top, risk to be more forceful. It’s not good for them to score a goal when we had the game under control, we should have scored it before, but we have to be prepared for this. I am very angry because in the team we were well positioned and we needed to win and look for commitment, as Medellín always has to do”.
For his part, Julio Comesaña was self-critical with the performance of those he directed. “I think that the Patriotas took advantage of that first opportunity they had 40 seconds into the second half, they did what they didn’t achieve in the first half when we had the game under control, we didn’t do what the Patriotas did, which was the goals. So, the one who scores the goals wins and you have to accept it that way”.
In addition, “you have to see who is called a big team, the big ones really win where it is almost an obligation. So, the championships are won by those who are inferior and if not, it is useless. That’s the truth”.
Regarding the inclusion of Vladimir Hernández instead of Bryan Castrillón at the start of the game, the Uruguayan strategist remarked that “I’m not going to talk about those things individually, I don’t put in and take out a player. In that specific case, he (Bryan Castrillón) was not there because Vladimir (Hernández) was playing.”
Returning to the analysis of the match, Comesaña expressed that “it seems to me that, in the first half, we were the absolute owners of the game. We lacked more determination to achieve the options we generated, but we had control of the game. In the second half, it was very poor after the goal and things didn’t work out”.
Finally, about giving Castrillón the opportunity and that Vladimir was not the team’s hook, Julio answered that “those things are good questions, but it would be time to play the second leg and apply it, but that will never be known”.
