scottish tennis player Andy murray spoke at a press conference after beating the American Reilly Opelka and qualify for the final of the ATP 250 in Sydney. The former number one in the world referred to his rival in the definition, his growth in the ranking and Novak Djokovic‘s situation.
“It’s fantastic to be in another final again. It was a very tough match. It always is when you face Opelka. You don’t usually have many options.”Murray expressed when referring to the match for the semifinals of the tournament.
Referring to the growth in the ATP ranking, the Scot commented: “It’s important to be competing in all these tournaments right now. For me, ranking isn’t really the ultimate goal. Instead, improving it and climbing to 50, 40, 30, top 20, which allows you to be the head of series in the Grand Slams”.
“I’ve only been able to train with him once on the grass tour. Huge puncher, huge twins, very strong guy. Enjoy the conditions here. He’s had a fantastic run in Australia last year.” Murray emphasized when referring to Aslan Karatsev, his rival in the final of the Australian competition.
Finally, the current 135 in the world referred to the situation of Novak Djokovic: “It’s not a good situation for anyone. This ending has been unfortunate I suppose. I don’t know how the process has been, where exactly it comes from, if he will appeal or not, not even if he can continue training while the appeal is resolved. We all wanted him to be to resolve the situation. It wasn’t good for anyone that it was like this. It feels like it’s gone on for too long. It wasn’t ideal for tennis, or for the Australian Open, or for Novak.”
