The city of Medellin received the year 2022 with the Baby Basketball Festival (13-14 years old) that had the contest of 24 teams, both male and female.
The young Colombian basketball prospects participated in this emblematic event and a 13-year-old player born in Cartagena stood out there.
This is Jaime Andrés Olivares, an eighth grade student from the Cartagena Gymnasium, who reinforced the Barranquilla Sharks quintet, which was runner-up.
Sharks fought the final against Cowboys from Yopal, Casanare, who took all the honors.
Olivares played in the point guard position in the Barranquilla team and finished as the second best in attendance of the tournament with 22.
“I’m very happy. I had a good tournament, I helped the team with assists and good defense,” said Olivares, who belongs to the Cartagena Dolphins Club. The Sharks played eight games and only lost one, the final.
“I could have done better. At the beginning of the tournament I was very nervous, but later I gained confidence and finished well”, explained the young man.
Meanwhile, Harold Hoyos Sr., who officiated as Tiburones assistant, expressed: “Jaime had a good tournament. He helped us a lot, mainly in defense”. The Sharks coach is Hariold Hoyos Jr.
Tiburones had other outstanding players such as Ángel Rodelo, who finished as the best in assists. Olivares was the second. Adrián Pérez, also from Tiburones, was the third best scorer in the tournament.
