Jamieson first leader in Abu Dhabi, Rafa Cabrera six strokes – Polideportivo

Sports Writing, Jan 20 (EFE).- Scotsman Scott Jamieson became the first leader of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship golf tournament this Thursday by covering the first round in 63 strokes, nine under par -a Yas Links course record- , with one advantage over the Norwegian Viktor Hovland.

Rafael Cabrera, from the Canary Islands, seventeenth on the first day with 69 strokes, was the best-ranked Spaniard, although Nacho Elvira is also down 3 after 16 holes, when the game was interrupted due to lack of visibility. It will resume this Friday at 7.45 local time (4.45 CET).

The Belgian Pieters Thomas alone occupies third place with 65 shots, one less than a quintet formed by the French Víctor Pérez, the English Tyrrell Hatton, Ian Poulter and James Morrison, and the Japanese Takumi Kanaka.

The American Collin Morikawa, number 2 in the world ranking and winner of the last British Open who aspires to dethrone the Spanish Jon Rahm on the list, failed on the first day: his card of 73 strokes places him momentarily in 90th place in the classification.

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, four times winner of a “Major” and four times second here, did not start well either, who on this first day had to settle for par in the field and a provisional 77th place.
