For bland, the last day of the American Express in La Quinta (California) by Jon Rahm did not seem to be his work. He finished with 71 strokes, with only two birdies and one bogey, this one on a par 5, on a Sunday in which he had no illusions of victory and which became another day in the office for Barrika’s man.
While above they hit each other for exceeding 20 under par, which is where the tournament was going to be decided, Jon was not comfortable. Especially on the greens where, without Saturday’s misfortune, he did lack a bit of luck that could have sweetened a card that took him beyond the top 10 of the tournament.
Waiting for better days Jon maintained the world number 1, a condition that had been cleared since Collin Morikawa did not pass the position in the Abu Dhabi Championship. Next stop, Torrey Pines, his talismanic course, where he won the US Open and the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open, in a tournament that will be held from next Wednesday to Saturday the 29th.
The triumph went to the American Hudson Swadford, who won with 23 under par. The 34-year-old champion thus adds his third tournament on the PGA Tour.
