Even before leaving, Shic emphasized that the most important thing was to be healthy, so the athletes carefully followed the recommendations of the Latvian Olympic team (LOV) doctors to reduce the risk of developing Covid-19. The time before going to Beijing became tense for the athletes, as they still had to get the equipment and send the sled to China.
“We are looking forward to going to the Olympics in China,” said Andris Shitz. “I hope we’re 110 percent prepared. Hopefully everything will work out.”
Martins Dukurs said that he meets people as little as possible, as well as disinfects his hands and uses face masks to reduce risks.
“Masks work and must be worn,” said Dukur.
Martin believes it will be important to test Covid-19 in Beijing in the morning so that the analysis can be repeated if the result is unclear. In the last days before going to Beijing, he did physical training, but the technical nuances were already set aside.
In addition to the sleigh team, skeletonists and bobsledgers, cross-country skiers and one of the two Latvian short-distance riders will go to Beijing on Wednesday.
The Beijing Winter Olympics will open on February 4.
