Latvian slalom champions in the Baltic Cup in Italy have been determined

The second stage of the Baltic Cup in downhill skiing, organized by the LSF, where downhill skiers from almost 40 countries start, had three days off after the first three days of giant slalom, and yesterday it continued with slalom, but today the Latvian championship medals were awarded in this discipline. We have already reported that Jacques Gedra and Liene Bondare became the national champions in giant slalom last Thursday.

Today, 73 downhill skiers competed for the men, including five Latvians, of whom only Miks Zvejnieks was the best in the top fifteen among the participants. Mārupietis was the main favorite among us, but it was expected that the winner of the giant slalom from Cēsis would compete fiercely for him. That is what happened. In a very similar fight, one being faster in the first race and the other in the second race, Zvejnieks (18th place, +2.81 sec.) Revived Gedram (21st place) with exactly the same difference – half a second.

Once again, Kristofers Gulbis (Snowfeel), who lives in Norway and is 18 years old, was the third among Latvians, finishing 30th (+9.72 sec.). In terms of places, but not after the lost time, Gustavs Ābele (ASI / Ruka Mountain Ski School) and Bruno Ģermanis (Snowfeel) were very close behind Gulbis, with 32nd (+18.71 sec.) And 33rd place respectively (+23 , 66 sec.).

The victory was won only by the 17-year-old Swedish mountain skier Fabian Ak Svart, who was a quarter of a second ahead of the Swiss Matthias Itena, who was once in his twenties in the European Cups.

Women had a stronger composition than men. The victory was won by 23-year-old Italian Anita Gulli, who took two places behind Jennifer German in the World Championship (26th place) last year, but two weeks ago in the World Cup stage in Schladming. In the end, another slalom player from Belarus, who reached the Top30 (20th place) in the World Championship in Slladming, conceded on the winner in just 0.09 seconds.

There were 54 participants in the women’s race, but the finish in the sum of both races reached 29. Unlike the men in the women’s competition, the winner of the first place in the Latvian Championship did not change and there was no similar fight. Liene Bondare was next to the second title, who climbed to the 24th place after the second race (+7.84 sec.). Laura Bišere (Leitner Ski Academy, Austria) lost twice as much as Bondare, who did not participate in the giant slalom, but took the 27th place in the slalom (+14.43 sec.). Thus, this time Helena Ērenpreisa (Ruka Mountain Ski School) and Samanta Līcīte (Pantera) both did not win an award place, and it had to be determined which one would be next to the bronze. Helen (28th place, +22.47 sec.) And Samanta 29th place (+24.10 sec.) Prevailed in both dueles, just like in the giant slalom.

Yesterday, in the first slalom, Zvejnieks with Gedra withdrew, and thus Gulbis was the best among Latvian skiers with 38th place (+12.57 sec.). The women also did not finish in Bondare, but Līcīte managed to overtake Ērenpreis, being the best of Latvians (31st place, +18.61 sec.).

Tomorrow the second stage of the Baltic Cup will end with the third slalom, which will be part of the Lithuanian championship.
