Latvian sleigh riders win a gold medal in the European Championship team relay race / Article

The Latvian team started with the eighth number in the competition of ten countries, and all three Latvian sledges completed their stage the fastest, beating the current leader Russia by 0.675 seconds.

Later, the Austrians went on the track, but Madeleine Egle, whose track was slower than Vītols, did not hit the relay board, thus not giving the team members the opportunity to overtake Latvia.

Finally, Germany started – Natalia Geizenberger lost 0.083 seconds to Vītola, but Johannes Ludwig finished the stage with a deficit of 0.234 seconds behind Latvia. Tony Egerts / Sasha Beneken did not play the dominance of the Latvian national team in his stage; the Germans conceded by 0.127 seconds and won silver medals.

Of the ten national teams, only Canada did not start in the European Championship.

Latvia also won the European Championship team competition in 2008 in Cesana and in 2010 in Sigulda. At that time, both gold medals were won by Juris and Andris Šici and Mārtiņš Rubenis, but Maija Tīruma and Anna Orlova had one title in the team competition.

In the overall standings of the season, Latvia won the second place in the relay with 415 points, but the German athletes won with 476 points.

It has already been reported that the bronze medal was won by Vītola, who was the fastest in the U-23 championship. On Saturday in the doubles competition, bronze was won by Bots / Plūme, who also won the U-23, but the fifth place was taken by Šici, which gave them the second place in the overall standings. Meanwhile, Aparjods won a silver prize at the European Championships, which also allowed him to take third place in the overall World Cup standings, while Gints Bērziņš won bronze in the U-23 Championship.

The culmination of the season will be from February 4 to 10, when the Olympic medals will be fought on the Yangtze River in Beijing.
