The Telekom Baskets Bonn were the surprise team in the BBL for a long time this season. On Sunday, the Rhinelanders received a lesson from their closest pursuer, Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich put things right in the basketball Bundesliga by beating Telekom Baskets Bonn in the top game and is back at the top of the table. After the convincing 100:81 (49:21) it is still tight, the cup winner has 24:8 points on the account, Bonner 24:10 in one game more.

Bonn, who have had a remarkable season so far under new coach Tuomas Iisalo, gave the hosts an even duel in the first half but gave up after the break. With a 12:0 run to 73:53, Bayern pulled away, after that there was nothing more to gain for Telekom Baskets.

Six Bayern score double digits – 19 threes

Coach Andrea Trinchieri’s Munich team showed a solid team performance, with Deshaun Thomas (18 points), Andreas Obst, Vladimir Lucic (both 14), Zan Mark Sisko, Nick Weiler-Babb (both 12) and Corey Walden (10) scoring the same six players double digits. The top scorer of the day, however, was guest player Parker Jackson-Cartwright (30).

“A very good day in the office,” joked Trinchieri after the strong performance. He was happy “that we controlled the game for almost 30 minutes. It was a team success. We hit shots that didn’t go in in the last home games.” Bayern converted 19 threes.

In Munich, at the end of the first half of the season, Bonn suffered their third defeat in a row, previously there had been bankruptcies in Crailsheim and against Hamburg. On the other hand, Bayern came back after the slip in their own hall against Chemnitz. The EuroLeague against Baskonia Vitoria/Spain continues on Friday.

Ulm wins without a head coach

In the second game on Sunday, ratiopharm Ulm won 92:81 (48:48) against medi Bayreuth. Ulmer celebrated their third win in a row and climbed to third place behind Bayern and Bonn. Jaron Blossomgame scored twice in a row for Ulm in the closing stages and became the top scorer with 18 points.

Ulm had to do without their head coach Jaka Lakovic. One of the three quick tests for the corona virus carried out on the day of the game was positive, as the club announced before the game.
