Maite Cazorla will rest this summer. Atlanta Dream, the franchise that owns its rights in the WNBA, announced this Monday that the Canarian base will not be with the team next summer, with which his contract is temporarily suspended. “Thank you for understanding my decision. I wish you the best next season”Cazorla wrote on Twitter. “We wish the best to Maite”said Dan Padover, general manager of the Georgia franchise. “She has played a couple of great seasons the last two years in Spain and we hope to have her back in the future.”
Cazorla, who in 2019 became the first Spaniard to play in an NCAA Final Four, it was drafted by the Dream with the 23rd position that same year. For now, with the pandemic through and the double commitment (Eurobasket and Games) in 2021, he has only played one course in the WNBA. In his rookie year, Cazorla averaged 3 points, 1.6 assists, and 0.5 steals.
Cazorla made his debut last summer with Spain in official competition. The base of Perfumerías Avenida averaged 9.8 points and 2 assists at the Eurobasket in Valencia. In the Tokyo Games he finished with 7.8 goals and 50% in triples.
Last season there was only one Spanish representative in the WNBA. It was Astou Ndour, who with his Chicago Sky won his first ring in the American League.
