McNulty solos to a win over Mallorca, Wellens (4th) and Uijtdebroeks show themselves | cycling

With the departing Alejandro Valverde, professional debutant Cian Uijtdebroeks, Michael Matthews and Mallorca enthusiast Tim Wellens, some interesting names were at the start of the Trofeo Calvia, a difficult one-day race in Mallorca.

Valverde received the prize of the fighting spirit afterwards. The 41-year-old war veteran was fully involved in the debates when the match broke out halfway through.

The very young Uijtdebroeks also stirred and, like Wellens and Goossens, slipped along with an elite group. In it Brandon McNulty turned on all the taps uphill.

The 23-year-old American made a gap of 40 seconds in no time. After a solo of 60 kilometers, McNulty crowed victory, his 1st victory since April 2019.

Joel Suter completed the party for the Emirates in the sprint for 2nd place. The young Swiss exchanged Bingoal-Pauwels Sauces-WB for UAE last winter.

Wellens, who has already won 4 matches on Mallorca in the past, had to settle for 4th place.
