Olympique Lyonnais could well sell Bruno Guimaraes, its Brazilian international midfielder, before the end of the winter transfer window. According to several media, including Sky Sports, an agreement has been reached between the Rhone club and Newcastle, for a transfer of between 36 and 40 million euros. Since its acquisition last fall by a huge public investment fund from Saudi Arabia, the English club, 18th in the Premier League, has become the richest club in the world.
He has already spent around 40 million euros this winter to secure the services of right-back Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid) and striker Chris Wood (Burnley). If the deal is confirmed, Bruno Guimaraes would be the third big recruit from Newcastle, who are in the fight to stay in the elite of English football. The 24-year-old is also followed by Arsenal and Juventus, who have not, for the moment, made an offer to OL.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who arrived in France two years ago, may have played his last Ligue 1 match in Lyon colors last Friday, in the derby won against AS Saint-Étienne ( 1-0). Recruited for 20 million euros from Athletico Paranaense (Brazil), Bruno Guimaraes, whose contract in Lyon runs until June 2024, played 71 games in all competitions with Les Gones, for 3 goals and 8 assists decisive.

Traveling to Ecuador with the Brazilian selection, to play a qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup (the Seleçao is already qualified), the Lyon midfielder could sign up with Newcastle back in Brazil, after having passed the medical examination. For its part, Olympique Lyonnais published a statement at the start of the afternoon in which it “categorically denies any agreement with Newcastle” for the transfer of its player.
