Miguel Borja talks about Teófilo Gutiérrez, Qualifiers, Dibu Martínez and playing alongside Falcao | Colombia selection

Miguel Angel Borgia awaits his debut in the Liga BetPlay I-2022 with the Junior from Barranquilla, then join the Colombia selection and play two crucial games in the South American Qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup: against Peru, on January 28, and Argentina, on February 1.

The forward of the shark team and the National Team had an extensive talk with the newspaper ‘The Herald’ from Barranquilla and told what his expectations are this season. “This is the home of the National Team. Apart from being a fan of Junior and loving his colors, my desire is always to be close to the family and the Tricolor. It is an opportunity to contribute to both challenges”, he commented.

Borja dared to promise goals against Patriotas, on date 1 of the Colombian league, and against Peru and Argentina in the Qualifiers. It is that his head is positive and he dreams big.

The striker was asked about Teófilo Gutiérrez, whom he had as a partner in Junior. As to whether ‘Teo’ deserved to be called up to the National Team, Borja was respectful: “I think these are decisions made by the coaching staff that don’t correspond to me”. However, when asked if he would have liked to see him in Junior this year, he had an answer that could well reach the coach Reinaldo Rueda.

“I think that every footballer wants quality players next to him. I made the most of the time I spent with him because of the quality he has. It is very easy to play next to him. What he has been doing in Cali, he talked about it with Harold Preciado, is very good”, Borja commented.

The Cordovan (Tierralta) commented that he greatly admires Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, because “he is a great human being” and confessed that “the desire to be by Falcao’s side up front is always”.

Although Borja is clear that the calendar of the Colombian National Team has Peru as its first rival, he could not avoid talking about Argentina, which will not have Lionel Messi: “Argentina has played very well with Messi and without Messi. It is not leaving aside a great figure, but facing Argentina is going to be very complicated. Argentina is already qualified and, surely, that is why they gave Messi a rest”.

And he smiled when asked about the personal duel with the archer Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martínez: “There will be no space to talk to him after he scores goals. It happened in the Copa América, it was a penalty shootout never seen before, very intense because of what he was doing, because of the way he gained confidence, which looks bad from the outside, but on the field it is valid, everyone is caught confidence in his own way, that made him feel more confident. It is up to each one to listen or not to what he says”.

Finally, Miguel Borja spoke about the goal shortages of the strikers of the National Team: “With patience. Sometimes it’s normal for those moments to come when there isn’t much…there are still options and we as strikers haven’t been able to take advantage of them. Hopefully against Peru, that good energy coming down from the stands will help us to convert”.
