“I’ve been spending time recently reflecting on my career and thinking about the future,” Liriano wrote. After several discussions with my family, my friends and other members of my entourage, I have decided to retire from professional baseball after 20 years of career. I want to thank all my coaches, the fans both in the United States and in the Dominican Republic who have encouraged me so much, and my wife and children for their love. I will miss playing, but I will stay close to my sport. »
A native of San Cristobal, Liriano played 419 games in 14 Major League Baseball seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Jays, Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers.

He pitched for 28 games with the Jays during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, having been acquired from the Pirates. Subsequently, Liriano was traded to the Astros at the trade deadline in 2017. This trade allowed the Torontonians to get their hands on outfielder Teoscar Hernandez.
