MLB rejects Rays plan to play in Florida

Major League Baseball rejected the plan that the Tampa Bay Rays proposed to split the season between Florida and Montreal.

Rays principal owner Stuart Sternberg announced MLB’s decision on Thursday.

“Today’s news is totally disheartening,” Sternberg said.

The idea of playing in the Tampa Bay and Montreal area has been on the table for the past seven seasons in the face of failed attempts to build a full-use home stadium.
