More than 10,000 people participate this year in the PROADES 2022 Program

The PROADES program of the General Directorate of Sports offers 21 sports activities in this year’s edition, more than in previous editions, including: acrosport, chess, motor racing, sailing, handball, mountain races, climbing, judo, swimming, orientation, triathlon, tennis or archery, among others. New features include canyoning, paddle tennis, touchtennis and handball.

This programme, which has the collaboration of the different sports federations in Extremadura and will be carried out in more than a hundred towns in the Autonomous Community, focuses on the educational development of students. Its main objective is to promote healthy living habits, in addition to acquiring the basic abilities and skills in the sports modalities in which it is developed. The competition factor is one more means to motivate the participants and not an end in itself.

In this edition, more than 10,000 people, students from 227 primary and secondary education centers will participate in the activities offered

After the restrictions suffered in 2021 due to the special circumstances caused by COVID-19, the two traditional modalities of participation are recovered in the PROADES 2022 Program: “Meet my sport” and “School Meetings of Educational Centers”.

The call has exceeded initial expectations. More than 300 educational centers have requested their participation, exhausting the places of some modalities in a few hours. For this reason, waiting lists have been created in several disciplines to be able to access the activity if cancellations occur.

In this edition, all the activities will take place between the months of January and May 2022. During this period, more than 10,000 primary and secondary school students will learn sports modalities that may be new to them, which represents an increase of more than 25%. compared to the 2021 edition. This program allows the promotion of physical activity in different regions of Extremadura, with the aim of disseminating sports practice in a variety of municipalities.

Specifically, the PROADES 2022 Program will reach more than 100 towns in the region distributed throughout all the counties, which demonstrates the interest of the General Directorate of Sports in promoting equal opportunities in access to sports activity, especially when deals with early ages. In fact, the students of a dozen grouped rural centers, from the most depopulated counties of the region, will be able to enjoy this project to promote school sports. This program reaffirms the commitment of the Junta de Extremadura to offer training and leisure alternatives to combat depopulation.
