More than 1,500 young people participated last year in the activities of the municipal program aimed at this group, Young Segovia, Although with unequal results according to age, since in the 81 proposals aimed at children under 18 years of age, 668 people between 12 and 17 years old did so, while there were about a thousand those of legal age, and up to 35 years, They did it in the adapted ones for them.
The Youth Council has taken stock of its activity in 2021, a year in which the IV Childhood, Adolescence and Youth Plan of Segovia, document through which specific planning is developed regarding childhood and youth for the city.
This document contains the main municipal action lines aimed at infants, adolescents and young people for four years; a guide that establishes where the City Council wants to go to work with the city’s children and youth. It is structured in four areas from which the different actions developed by the Councilor.
The program Young Segovia -18 includes activities aimed at adolescents between 12 and 17 years old and has among its objectives to develop leisure proposals focused on health promotion and education, as well as other leisure activities during school holidays to help reconcile family life and labor.
In the first half of last year, 62 activities were offered to which a total of 624 people registered, but 55 were carried out and, due to capacity restrictions due to the health crisis, 464 were able to participate.
The most demanded were ‘To the streets’, ‘Crazy games’ Y ‘Archery’, along with those related to the theme of Harry Potter during the Easter holidays.
In summer, the municipal program offered 224 places and the offer was divided by age ranges: from 8 to 12 years old, through six weekly shifts and 84 places, and between 12 and 17 years old, with ten shifts for 140 participants.
For the second consecutive year, in collaboration with the Department of Historical Heritage, the didactic and archaeological intervention in the ‘Path of sighs’.
In October 2021 the Reading club for adolescents who, today, is made up of ten young people between 12 and 16 years old and who, during these months, have read a total of three books.
Finally, on Friday, November 12, the Escape Room ‘The Mystery of the Time Turner‘, set in the magical world of Harry Potter. For this activity, 131 requests for participation were received and, due to capacity reasons, 10 passes were made for a total of 80 participants.
The program Young Segovia +18 offers leisure and free time activities, including those aimed at developing training activities as a curricular complement for young people over 16 years of age. Last year there were 5 groups of activities: Winter 2021, Let’s talk (actions in English), Spring 2021, Entrepreneurship is youth (together with the Association of Young Entrepreneurs of Segovia, AJE) and those of the last quarter.
The leisure activities were generally developed in open-air spaces, so they were very well received, with 694 registrations in the first semester and 403 participants. Among the most demanding, routes by electric bike, hiking, functional training in parks of Segovia and skating.
On the other hand, in September there was the reopening of the Rehearsal Room of the Young House, which had been closed since the start of the pandemic. During the last quarter, five musical groups made up of 16 people and with an average age of 20 years made use of it.
The House Young It is also a meeting point for teenagers between 12 and 16 years old on weekend afternoons to dance, meet up, board games or video consoles.
